CS2 Player Stats Guide – K/D, ADR, KAST & HLTV Rating

CS2 produces a wealth of statistics for every professional match. If you're new to watching competitive Counter-Strike or just starting to dig into HLTV data, this guide explains every stat you'll encounter and what it means for evaluating player performance.

Kill/Death Ratio (K/D)

The K/D ratio is the simplest stat: total kills divided by total deaths. A ratio above 1.0 means the player earns more kills than they give deaths. Most top professional players maintain a K/D above 1.20 over long periods. While easy to understand, K/D alone doesn't distinguish between high-value and low-value kills.

Average Damage per Round (ADR)

ADR measures the total damage dealt across all rounds, divided by the number of rounds played. A professional player averages around 75 ADR. Elite fraggers often exceed 85–90 ADR. Support players and anchors often score lower ADR while still providing significant value through utility and positioning.

KAST Percentage

KAST stands for Kill, Assist, Survive, Trade. A round counts in a player's KAST if they: earned a kill, provided a credited assist, survived the round, or traded an enemy who killed their teammate within 5 seconds. The average professional KAST is around 70–75%. High KAST reflects consistent contribution across many different round types.

HLTV Rating

HLTV Rating combines multiple stats into one score, calibrated so that 1.00 represents the average professional player. Rating 3.0, introduced in 2025, adds economic context to kills (adjusting for opponent's buy level) and introduces Round Swing as a key sub-metric. A rating above 1.10 is above average; above 1.20 is elite.

Opening Kills and Deaths

Opening kills and opening deaths measure who starts the fight in each round. Players with high opening kill rates are "entry fraggers" who trade their lives for map control. High opening kill rates with low death rates indicate players who win duels aggressively and survive – the most valuable combination.

Clutch Rate

A clutch occurs when a player is the last alive on their team and must win the round against multiple opponents. HLTV tracks clutch win rates for situations ranging from 1v1 to 1v5. High clutch rates under pressure are a significant indicator of individual skill and mental strength.

HLTV Attributes – Reading Player Style

HLTV Attributes scores players 0–100 across seven dimensions: Firepower (raw kill output), Entrying (sacrificial first entries), Trading (follow-up kills), Opening (who wins the first duel), Clutching (1vX win rate), Sniping (AWP/Scout usage), and Utility (grenade and flash usage). The average professional scores 50 in each category. These attributes help you understand how a player plays, not just how well.
